Gene Infomation:This intronless gene encodes the receptor protein formelanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH). The encoded protein, a sevenpass transmembrane G protein coupled receptor, controlsmelanogenesis. Two types of melanin exist: red pheomelanin andblack eumelanin. Gene mutations that lead to a loss in function areassociated with increased pheomelanin production, which leads tolighter skin and hair color. Eumelanin is photoprotective butpheomelanin may contribute to UV-induced skin damage by generatingfree radicals upon UV radiation. Binding of MSH to its receptoractivates the receptor and stimulates eumelanin synthesis. Thisreceptor is a major determining factor in sun sensitivity and is agenetic risk factor for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Over30 variant alleles have been identified which correlate with skinand hair color, providing evidence that this gene is an importantcomponent in determining normal human pigment variation. Buffer condition:Purified monoclonal antibody supplied in PBS with 0.09% (W/V) sodium azide. This antibody is prepared by Euglobin precipitation followed by dialysis against PBS.

Background:

Molar Function:

Western Blot:

Stability: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37°C for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

Storage: Store at 4°C for frequent use. Stored at -20°C in a manual defrost freezer for one year without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Notes: For In vitro laboratory use only. Not for any clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic use in humans or animals. Not for animal or human consumption.
