Gene Full Name:SECIS binding protein 2
Gene Infomation:The protein encoded by this gene is one of the essential components of the machinery involved in co-translational insertion of selenocysteine (Sec) into selenoproteins. Sec is encoded by the UGA codon, which normally signals translation termination. The recoding of UGA as Sec codon requires a Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) element; present in the 3' untranslated regions of eukaryotic selenoprotein mRNAs. This protein specifically binds to the SECIS element, which is stimulated by a Sec-specific translation elongation factor. Mutations in this gene have been associated with reduction in enzymatic activity of type II iodothyronine deiodinase (a selenoprotein) and abnormal thyroid hormone metabolism. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]

Tissue specificity:Expressed at high levels in testis.
Storage:Store at -20°C. Avoid freeze / thaw cycles.
Buffer condition:PBS with 0.02% sodium azide, 50% glycerol, pH7.3.
Background:
Molar Function:Binds to the SECIS element in the 3'-UTR of some mRNAs encoding selenoproteins. Binding is stimulated by SELB.
Western Blot:Stability: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37°C for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.
Storage: Store at 4°C for frequent use. Stored at -20°C in a manual defrost freezer for one year without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Notes: For In vitro laboratory use only. Not for any clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic use in humans or animals. Not for animal or human consumption.
