Gene Infomation:Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that is covalentlylinked to other proteins to regulate their function anddegradation. This gene encodes a member of the ubiquitin-specificprotease family of cysteine proteases. The enzyme specificallycleaves ubiquitin from ubiquitin-conjugated protein substrates. Theprotein is found in the nucleus and cytoplasm. It functions as aco-factor of the DNA-bound androgen receptor complex, and isinhibited by a protein in the Ras-GTPase pathway.
